State Convention 2019

LGBTQ Democrats of NC cordially invites you to attend our 2019 State Convention, to be held Saturday, October 5th at the Ramada by Wyndham Raleigh Hotel.  The $45 per person registration includes admission to the Governor’s Reception Friday Night at the Governor’s Mansion, Friday Evening Social at the Hotel, Saturday Breakfast, and the Convention from 9am to 1pm.
In addition to the standard business of elections and consideration of resolutions, Featured Speakers will include Rep. Deb Butler (D-New Hanover), NC House Democratic Minority Whip and one of our Out Representatives in the General Assembly who has received national attention for her protest to Speaker Moore’s unethical decision to call for a veto override on September 11th.

In order to attend, you must be a member of LGBTQ Democrats of NC, either as a member of of an Active Chapter, or as an at-large member (only for those who are residents of a county without an active chapter. To join or renew your membership, please use the following links:


Attendees may register for the convention either online through Eventbrite or by completing the manual form contained in the Call To Convention. Manual registrations should be made no later than September 20th and sent to the Treasurer as directed on the form.  Online registrations will be accepted through September 23rd.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Ramada by Wyndham Raleigh Hotel, the location of all Convention events except for the Governor’s Reception.  The group rate is $71.20 per night plus taxes.  Reservations must be made directly with the hotel by calling 919-832-4100.  Tell the clerk you are making reservations for “LGBTQ Democrats of NC State Convention” or code “LGBTQD19”.  The rate is not available online or through Ramada’s nationwide reservations number. The room block is available through September 20th.  After that, rates are based on availablility, so book your room ASAP!

Agenda in Brief

Registration/Check-in Available Friday, October 4th from 3:00 to 5:00pm and again from 8:00 to 8:30pm at the hotel.
Registration/Check-in for those attending Saturday only will be Saturday morning (October 5th) from 7:30 to 8:45am also at the hotel.

Join us for a Reception with Governor Roy Cooper, First Lady Kristin Cooper, Council of State, Statewide Judicial Candidates, LGBTQ Elected Officials and candidates at the Executive Mansion downtown at 200 N Blount Street from 6:00- 7:30pm on Friday evening, October 4th. Carpools or a shuttle will be available from the hotel. As we must provide an attendee list to the Governor’s office in advance, you must pre-register in order to attend this event.

The cost for this event is included in the Convention Registration, and is not available separately from the Convention, nor are registration fees pro-rated for those not attending the reception.

After-Party at the Hotel

Friday, October 4th from 8:30pm to 1:00am there will be an after-party with cash bar, other food and drinks, entertainment and dancing. This event is included in your registration.

Saturday Breakfast

A buffet Breakfast Saturday Morning from 6:30 to 8:30 is included in your Convention Registration (regardless of whether you’re staying in the hotel or not.)  Come down at your leisure and enjoy, but be in your seats and ready to start the meeting at 9am!

Convention Time!

The Convention will gavel to order at 9am.  A full agenda will be posted when finalized. All State Officers (President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, and VP for College/University Outreach) as well as Congressional District Representatives (Chair, Vice-Chair) are up for election. All members will vote on Statewide Officers, while District Representatives are elected only by members residing in that Congressional District.  Nominations will be taken from the floor, but if you’d like to announce your candidacy in advance, send an email indicating your intent along with a photo and brief bio to President Ginger Walker at to be posted along with other announced candidates.
